Bridging the gap between PC titles and mobile players

Three African indie games debut on mobile with Android Port Challenge

Creative hub Africacomicade has wrapped up its Android Port Challenge, an initiative to bring African PC and console games to mobile.

The program equipped developers with resources and support to adapt desktop games for Android, reimagining them from keyboard and mouse play to mobile touch controls.

Africacomicade said the program is designed to prove that local studios can compete in a market long dominated by global players.

As part of the program, three indie studios were selected for their stories, communities, and creative visions, each deemed ready for a broader audience.

Selected studios

Rapid Run is a fast-paced, Tossdown-inspired arcade courier game where players dodge obstacles to complete deliveries, making it ideal for mobile play.

Unbroken: Last Stand by Raven Illusion is a post-invasion sci-fi title set in South Africa that blends futuristic combat with African culture as the studio adapts its acclaimed fast-paced development to mobile.

Outliver: Tribulation by GBROSSOFT is a survival horror rooted in African mythology. It follows soldier Bolanle Gboyega through a supernatural realm, with the PC version already earning major industry recognition.

“Africa’s gaming market is overwhelmingly mobile-first,” said Africacomicade founder Oscar Michael.

“In recent years, we've seen many brilliant game projects from the continent target PC and console platforms because of funding, distribution and monetization opportunities, but most players here can’t access them. The Android Port Challenge was our way of bridging that gap.”

The Android Port Challenge supports five African game developers in bringing successful PC/console titles that have earned at least $1,000 in revenue or showing strong user traction to Android.

Selected developers will receive support in porting, publishing, marketing, and promotion, along with the chance to access up to $5,000 in funding from a $15,000 pool. Interested founders can apply here.
