Global Game Jam and Lagos Games Week launch Pan-African Game Jam
Participants aged 18 and above from any African country can take part.
Global Game Jam and Lagos Games Week have partnered to launch a new continent-wide initiative named the Pan-African Game Jam 2026.
The fully virtual jam is designed to connect developers and strengthen collaboration across Africa’s growing games ecosystem.
It will run from April 24th to May 11th under the theme “Play Without Borders,” forming part of the official lead-up to Lagos Games Week later this year. Interested developers can sign up here.
Organisers said the initiative is intended to encourage cross-border teamwork, build practical development habits, and give emerging creators a platform to showcase their skills.
Open participation
Participants aged 18 and above from any African country can take part, either as solo developers or in teams. International collaborators are permitted, provided that at least 75% of team members are based on the continent.
Moreover, developers will have just over two weeks to create and submit their projects, with winners scheduled to be announced on May 25th following a judging period.
The jam will feature a $2,500 cash prize pool alongside in-kind rewards, including membership in Global Game Jam’s Indie Studio Supporter programme.
Awards will be presented across multiple categories, including Best Game, Best UEFN Game, Best Tabletop Game and Best Mobile Game, as well as recognition for the top game from each participating country and the leading Inter-African team.
Lagos Games Week 2026 is scheduled for June 18th to June 19th at the National Theatre in Lagos.
