Nour Khrais outlines five realities shaping mobile gaming careers in 2026

Maysalward founder and CEO Nour Khrais has outlined five key shifts shaping careers in the mobile games industry, arguing that the sector’s rapid maturation is redefining the skills studios need in 2026.

Khrais took to LinkedIn to share that the mobile games market, now valued at around $120 billion, has moved far beyond its early reputation for unpredictable viral hits.

“Mobile gaming has matured,” wrote Khrais. “What used to be garage luck is now a $120bn industry driven by live services, hybrid monetization, and AI-accelerated production.

“Competition is tougher, but roles for creatives and technologists are broader than ever.”

Shifting roles

Khrais went on to add that one of the most visible changes is the industry’s shift from short-term development cycles toward long-running seasonal content models. This has increased demand for specialists in areas such as in-game economies, event management and player retention.

He also pointed to the growing role of artificial intelligence as a creative partner in development, with designers using generative tools and procedural systems to build dynamic NPC behaviour, dialogue and gameplay balance.

Expanding disciplines

Furthermore, Khrais said that technical artists are becoming increasingly important as studios attempt to deliver high-quality visuals across mid-range devices, particularly in emerging markets where hardware limitations remain common.

At the same time, live operations teams are becoming central to ongoing development, using telemetry data and predictive analytics to guide updates and in-game events.

Finally, the Maysalward founder said quality assurance is evolving into a broader “QAOps” discipline, where large-scale automated testing and active community engagement help studios maintain player trust while improving games over time.
