Playtopia

Founded in 2018, Playtopia is Africa’s annual festival and conference dedicated to indie games and immersive arts. Held in South Africa, it celebrates creativity, collaboration, and the continent’s growing influence in global game development and interactive media.

Over the years, Playtopia has evolved into a key fixture on the international indie calendar, attracting creators, developers, and players from across the world while spotlighting African talent whose work is gaining global recognition.

The 2025 edition, taking place from December 5th to 6th, continues this tradition with more than 1,000 attendees expected. It combines exhibitions, workshops, and installations that blur the lines between games and art, fostering dialogue and innovation across disciplines.
