Maliyo Games’ Safari City surpasses 100,000 downloads

Match-3 city-building game Safari City has surpassed 100,000 downloads on mobile to mark a major milestone for  Maliyo Games.

The Lagos-based studio said that Safari City is its flagship narrative-driven title that celebrates African architecture, lifestyle, and storytelling.

“A massive thank you to everyone who has played, supported, and shared the game," said Maliyo Games founder Hugo Obi in a post. “Your excitement keeps us motivated to keep building and improving."

“It's been an incredible journey so far, and this is only the beginning. Here's to the next 100,000 downloads and beyond!" 

Road to a million

Founded to create culturally inspired games for African audiences and beyond, Maliyo Games is currently focused on Safari City as it aims to amass a million downloads. 

The game follows Kewa, a young architect determined to fulfil her grandfather’s dream of building a modern city in Jada. It blends property development and Match-3 puzzle mechanics with narrative progression.

Players can master colourful fruit puzzles, unlock episodes, and personalise each renovation with furniture, décor, and architectural elements inspired by African design. 

Maliyo has grown a 30-person team across five countries, all dedicated to developing polished, original titles that represent a new generation of African-made games for global audiences.
