Overview

24 Bit Games is a South African technical game development services studio founded in 2012, with offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The studio has grown to more than 55 people and describes itself as the largest and most experienced game development services studio on the African continent.

Rather than primarily developing its own IP, 24 Bit Games works with international developers and publishers on porting, co-development and technical optimisation. Its services cover PC, console, mobile and VR, with the team providing everything from game programming and tools development to performance optimisation and final platform certification.

The studio has worked on a substantial list of internationally recognised games, including COCOON, Terra Nil, Neon White, Broforce, Twelve Minutes, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, GORN, Open Roads and A Memoir Blue.

24 Bit Games was founded by Luke Lamothe, initially as a one-person outsourcing operation before expanding as demand for its technical services grew. By 2021, the studio had reached around 40 employees and had established relationships with companies including Annapurna Interactive, Devolver Digital, Unity and Disney.

The studio was acquired by Annapurna Interactive in 2023, its first acquisition of a game studio.
