Overview

Adala Studios is a Kenyan game production company based in Nairobi, developing digital and physical board games for local and international audiences. The studio focuses on creating games that combine entertainment with educational and social themes.

Its best-known project is DownStream, a water-themed board game created through the Chezo Serious Game competition. Players take on the role of water drops travelling toward Lake Mwisho while dealing with pollution, water waste and other challenges.

The game also teaches players about water conservation and the water ecosystem, with content designed to support students studying environmental and water-related topics.

Adala Studios has also been involved in Kenya's wider creative and games ecosystem. Dennis Mbuthia, identified as the studio's lead game designer and animator, has worked on the studio's game projects alongside his work in video game development education.
