Overview
AfricaComicade is a Pan-African platform supporting digital creatives across games, animation, comics, extended reality and other areas of interactive media. The organisation aims to connect African creatives with opportunities for learning, collaboration, funding and employment, while helping showcase African creative work to a wider audience.
Its work includes industry events, training programmes, fellowships, game jams and research. The organisation says one of its goals is to address the lack of data about Africa's creative industries by gathering information on areas such as talent distribution, investment and market forecasts.
One of its best-known initiatives is Gamathon, a convention focused on Africa's games, digital art and extended reality industries. The event combines workshops, industry talks, panels, pitch competitions, exhibitions and a game jam, with editions and activities spanning several African markets.
Africa Comicade also runs programmes including the Spark Fellowship, which provides intensive training for creatives, and the ARK Fellowship, aimed at game owners and studio founders seeking access to funding opportunities or jobs.
The organisation has also produced research mapping game studios across Africa, making it particularly relevant to the wider African games ecosystem.
