Overview

Atrybute is a South African game development and interactive media studio founded by Homolang "Nathi" Marule. Based in Johannesburg, the studio develops games and interactive experiences while also providing outsourced production services using Unreal Engine and Unity. It also offers Unreal Engine training and is developing its own original game IP.

The studio's main game project is Axe Me Why, a post-apocalyptic action roguelike set in the Spirit Realm. Players take on the role of Tsuki, a warrior fighting through 15-minute runs while defending her village's fading spirit. The game combines horde combat, exploration and resource gathering with a narrative influenced by African spirituality and mythology.

Axe Me Why has already received a Steam demo, while the full game remains in development. Atrybute also participated in the 2023 Ayoba Gaming Hackathon, where it placed third with Herbanetics.

The studio has also been selected for the 2026 African Xbox Game Camp, putting it among a group of African developers receiving support from Xbox. (LinkedIn)

Atrybute's broader work extends beyond original games, with projects including Karmzah Run, an interactive story experience and Unreal Engine development showcases.
