Overview

Glitch Portal is a South African indie game development studio focused on bringing African storytelling and cultural perspectives into games. Founded in 2021, the studio combines entertainment and education, with games drawing on South African culture, mythology, languages and local settings.

Its main project is Themba: The Last Hope, a top-down roguelike RPG set in the fictional world of Azania. Players take on the role of Themba as he attempts to save his best friend from Ntate Moloi, battling mythical creatures along the way. The game also incorporates isiZulu language and South African mythology into its gameplay and world.

The studio has also developed Jozi Jam!, a rhythm game based around directing traffic at an intersection, and is working on Suburbageddon, a South African party card game centred on chaotic neighbours and community drama.

Glitch Portal has showcased its work internationally, including at Web Summit Brazil, and in 2026 has continued expanding its team while participating in industry initiatives including Création Africa and Gamescom.
