Overview

Kumakan Studio is a Burkina Faso-based game development studio founded in Ouagadougou in 2019. The studio creates games inspired by African culture, myths, legends and folklore, while also developing games designed to address social issues.

The studio's work extends beyond traditional game development into gamification, creating interactive experiences that can be used for education, social awareness and other purposes. Its projects have included games designed to help players learn about local issues through familiar and engaging formats.

One of its notable projects is Corona Trip, a mobile game that puts players in the role of the COVID-19 virus, allowing them to learn about how the virus spreads and the strategies it uses to infect people. The project was developed as a social-change game and used advertising as its planned business model.

Kumakan was also selected as one of Burkina Faso's winners of JICA's NINJA Business Plan Competition in 2022, receiving support for its COVID-19 educational game.
