Overview

Kwathu Kollective is a Malawian innovation and creativity network that works across technology, arts, education, entrepreneurship and digital skills. Founded in 2021, the organisation grew out of the Ntha Foundation's Kwathu Innovation & Creative Centre and has since developed into a broader pan-African ecosystem.

While Kwathu is broader than a traditional game studio, it has a growing presence in game development and interactive media. Its work includes supporting African creators, running training and fellowship programmes, providing innovation spaces and developing creative projects.

The organisation is headquartered in Mangochi, having moved from Lilongwe as part of its strategy to decentralise its operations and build innovation programmes outside major urban centres. Kwathu says its network now spans more than 20 African countries and has reached more than 500,000 young people.

Kwathu Kollective was also selected for the third Xbox Game Camp Africa, alongside game studios from across the continent.
