Overview

Muqecha Studios is an Ethiopian independent game studio based in Addis Ababa. Founded in 2023, the studio focuses on creating community-first games rooted in Ethiopian culture and designed to engage with real-world social issues. Its LinkedIn profile lists the company at 2-10 employees.

The studio's current focus is on woman-centred stories and experiences, with its games drawing on Ethiopian culture and everyday life. Its debut project, LOMI, is inspired by the lemon-throwing rituals associated with Ethiopia's Timket celebration and uses fast-paced survival action to explore women's experiences with street harassment.

LOMI is currently in public beta, while Muqecha is also developing Kushneta and Darign Shenkore. The studio describes the latter as its "boldest experiment yet", although details remain under wraps.
