Overview

QCF Design is a South African independent game development studio based in Cape Town. Founded in 2007, the studio describes itself as approaching development primarily from a game design perspective, with work spanning commercial games, prototypes, educational content, mobile advergames and other interactive projects.

The studio is best known for Desktop Dungeons, a compact roguelike puzzle game that challenges players to complete randomly generated dungeons in short sessions. The game won the Excellence in Design award at the 2011 Independent Games Festival and was subsequently released commercially in 2013.

QCF Design later released Desktop Dungeons: Rewind in 2023, revisiting the original game's tactical roguelike formula. Its other released work includes Drawkanoid, a neon arcade brick-breaking game that began as a prototype in 2017 before becoming a Humble Original and later releasing on Steam.

The studio's earlier work also includes experimental and game-jam projects such as The Last Fleet, YouDunnit, 48 Hour War, Mathstermind and Tropika SupaKick.
