Overview

Team Lazerbeam is a South African independent game studio known for creating unconventional, colourful and often deliberately chaotic games. The studio describes itself as a "video game band", with its work spanning comedy, narrative and experimental game concepts.

The studio's portfolio includes Teenage Blob, Wrestling With Emotions: New Kid on the Block and Shroom and Gloom. Wrestling With Emotions combines wrestling, dating simulation and RPG elements, while Shroom and Gloom is a roguelite deckbuilding game built around two decks and 26 handcrafted tunnels.

Team Lazerbeam has also been part of South Africa's independent development scene for more than a decade. The 2025 Africa Games Industry Report lists the studio as a Cape Town-based South African developer, while its current website continues to promote Shroom and Gloom and its other projects.

The team is also closely involved with the local development community, with founder Ben Lazerbeam involved in Playtopia and South African game-development community initiatives.
