Overview
VCD Studios is a Lagos-based Nigerian indie game studio founded by Victory C. Duru. The studio focuses on narrative-driven games and describes its approach as combining meaningful storytelling with experimental gameplay.
Its main project is The InBetween, a 2D Metroidvania following Pipit, a young boy navigating an infected underground world. The game combines fast-paced exploration and combat with turn-based encounters where players can choose to fight, talk, spare or run. These decisions affect the story and can lead to different endings.
VCD Studios has received international recognition for the project. It became the first Nigerian studio to receive a Game Devs of Color Grant and also won funding through Africa Comicade's ARK Pitch Contest. The studio has subsequently showcased The InBetween at events including Africa Games Week, Playtopia and the Afro Game Showcase.
