Overview

Yellow Lab Games is an independent South African game studio based in Cape Town. The studio describes itself as a small, focused team of artists, designers and developers making experimental and often unconventional indie games. Its current LinkedIn profile lists the company as founded in 2024, although earlier reporting traces the studio's formation to 2021.

The studio's debut title is Metavoidal, a heavy metal-themed action roguelite in which players take control of a drummer battling through a world of metal, rhythm and monsters. The game launched on PC in 2025 after several years of development and international showcases.

Yellow Lab was acquired by Reforged Studios in December 2024. The acquisition followed the studio's earlier transition from RenderHeads South Africa, where the team had originally developed Metavoidal.
