Overview

Zainlitha Studios is a female-led South African game development startup based in Johannesburg. The studio was founded by a group of university students and focuses on creating games built around African stories and settings. Its team emerged from the HP Gaming Garage Hackathon and subsequently entered a gaming incubation programme through HP and the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.

The studio's main project is Anele, a cyberpunk pit-fighting game set in a futuristic South Africa. During its incubation, the team completed the game's Slum Region and developed a playable prototype, with the project showcased through South African creative and gaming events.

Zainlitha Studios is based in Johannesburg, while at least some of its members are still studying at university.
