Iraqi-Canadian brothers release Curse of Baghdad on PS5
A major milestone for the family-run studio
Three Iraqi-Canadian brothers have released Curse of Baghdad, a story-driven tactical shooter developed by their independent studio, Hexonine Games.
Co-founder and studio director Ahmed Muawiyah shared the news on LinkedIn, saying he and his brothers Mohammad and Abdullah had spent more than a year developing the game, running playtests and fixing bugs before bringing it to PlayStation 5.
The developer described the release as a major milestone for the family-run studio, which is based in Milton, Ontario, Canada.
A personal journey
Ahmed also spoke about the challenges the brothers faced during development, including financial difficulties and the loss of both parents. Despite these setbacks, the trio continued working on the project until they could share it with players.
Curse of Baghdad is a top-down tactical shooter set in war-torn Iraq. Players follow a coalition team fighting hostile forces after discovering an ancient curse that brings supernatural threats to the battlefield. The game features a seven-mission campaign, cinematic scenes and battles against enemies inspired by Mesopotamian mythology.

Hexonine Games describes itself as an independent studio focused on story-driven games. The team is made up of the three brothers, who have since worked together on several projects.
The studio has also developed other titles, including Soulscape: Shadows of the Past Episode 1. The brothers say the PlayStation release marks the beginning of their journey as console developers.
You can purchase the game on PlayStation, the Epic Games Store and Steam.
