Mastercard partners with Tamatem to expand gaming payments across MENA
The rollout will cover more than 13 markets, starting with Saudi Arabia and the UAE
Mastercard and MENA mobile games publisher Tamatem have partnered to improve in-app gaming payments across the Middle East and Africa.
Under the collaboration, Mastercard Gateway, available through Mastercard Merchant Cloud, will become the payment gateway behind Tamatem Plus, Tamatem's digital commerce platform and marketplace.
The rollout will cover more than 13 markets across the region, starting with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Simpler payments
The partnership will allow players using Tamatem Plus to check out through localised web stores and in-game payment experiences. Players will be able to use cards, local alternative payment methods and telco wallet balances, with authentication and fraud protection built in.
Tamatem says the platform currently powers more than 30 localised storefronts and provides access to more than 50 local payment methods through a single integration.
The companies said the collaboration will also give game publishers a direct-to-consumer channel to build stronger relationships with players and have greater control over their brand and purchasing experiences.
Tamatem founder and CEO Hussam Hammo said improving payments is the “natural next chapter” of the company's mission to build gaming experiences for MENA audiences.
