Faker named Esports World Cup Game Ambassador through 2028

Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok has been named a Game Ambassador for the Esports World Cup and Esports Nations Cup through 2028, the Esports Foundation confirmed.

The appointment runs through 2028 and covers the Foundation's international events, athlete initiatives, media engagements, and leadership forums.

Faker joins Cristiano Ronaldo and Magnus Carlsen in the Esports Foundation Ambassador Program, a lineup the Foundation says represents the expanding global culture of competition across traditional sport, chess, and competitive gaming.

Esports Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert said Faker is "the defining athlete of competitive gaming" and that his inclusion in the program ensures players who built the sport have a voice in shaping its future direction.

Icon beyond the game

A six-time League of Legends World Champion, two-time MSI champion, ten-time domestic champion, and EWC 2024 winner, Faker has competed at the highest level with T1 for over a decade.

In 2026, he became the first esports athlete to receive South Korea's Blue Dragon Medal, the country's highest sporting honour, awarded by President Lee Jae-myung.

“Competition has shaped my life, and I am proud to join the Esports Foundation as Game Ambassador," said Faker. "I want to continue competing for the biggest titles with T1 while representing the players and fans who have helped esports grow worldwide.

"Through the Esports World Cup, Esports Nations Cup and the Foundation’s wider platforms, I hope to inspire the next generation to pursue excellence, remain resilient and believe in how far competitive gaming can take them. There is still much more to achieve.”
