Maliyo Games and ASU partner to train African developers in AI and game development

Nigeria-based developer Maliyo Games has partnered with Arizona State University to expand AI and game development training across Africa.

The collaboration introduces a structured framework combining micro-credentials, externships, and hands-on learning to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world production in the interactive media industry.

Through the initiative, participants can earn globally recognised certifications from Arizona State University while gaining practical experience via Maliyo’s GameUp Africa programme.

Since early 2026, both parties claim that over 150 micro-credentials have already been awarded to the first cohort.

Talent development

Both organisations aim to train and certify 10,000 learners in the coming years, responding to growing demand for AI-literate and studio-ready talent as Africa’s games market moves toward a projected $5bn valuation by 2030.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to building and nurturing talent within Africa’s growing gaming ecosystem,” said Maliyo Games CEO Hugo Obi.

“By combining structured learning, community, and access to tools, we are creating opportunities for young people to thrive in game development and beyond.”

Maliyo Games is listed in the IsaKaba Studios Directory.
