Merak Capital appoints Maha Albaloushi as senior investment operations analyst

Saudi-based Merak Capital has appointed Maha Albaloushi as senior investment operations analyst, shifting her out of Exel by Merak, the firm's gaming accelerator, where she served as senior accountant earlier this year.

Albaloushi joined Exel by Merak from Geidea, where she worked as an accountant for two years, and previously held a Jr. Accountant position at Raqamyah in Riyadh. She completed a business consulting internship at EY in 2022 and holds an MBA.

"Making this move from senior accountant to investment operations wasn't an easy decision, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to grow in a new direction while staying within Merak family," Albaloushi said in a post.

Backing Saudi gaming

Merak Capital runs an $80 million Gaming Fund backed by the National Development Fund and the Social Development Bank, deployed through Exel by Merak to back studios including Khosouf Studio and gametech startup Qwacks.

The fund launched in November 2024 as part of Merak's push to help build Saudi Arabia's gaming ecosystem under Vision 2030, and Albaloushi's internal move keeps her inside that group as it scales its bets.

Exel by Merak has since graduated two cohorts of gaming startups, with cohort 3 now underway as the accelerator continues placing early-stage studios on a path toward international scale.
