Abjad Games wins 3D Game Jam with Saudi-inspired prototype
The competition saw more than 200 participants to create playable prototypes
Riyadh-based Abjad Games has won first place at the 3D Game Jam in Riyadh with its prototype Around the Kingdom, securing the top spot after three days of development.
The team turned its initial concept into a playable prototype during the event, combining Saudi-inspired worldbuilding, 3D development, game design and AI-powered tools.
The competition, held from August 27th to 30th at Code Lab at King Saud University, brought together more than 200 participants to create playable prototypes using AI and 3D technology.
Teams received feedback from Japanese game industry professionals, with the judging panel including Yoshiki Okamoto, Rie Narusawa and Toshiyuki Uehara.
Building Saudi worlds
Abjad Games said the win represents an important milestone as it works to create games rooted in Saudi culture for players around the world.
"Winning first place with Around the Kingdom is an important milestone for us at Abjad Games, and a meaningful step in our journey to build distinctive gaming experiences rooted in Saudi culture and created for players around the world," the team said in a post.
The independent studio is based in Riyadh and focuses on stories inspired by Arabian heritage and mythology. Its first announced title, ALRAIY: The Last Fire, is an atmospheric survival adventure set across desolate farmlands and is currently in development for PC.
