Lagos Tycoon is a new game that lets players build and manage businesses across a virtual version of Lagos, where they can trade, expand, and compete.

The browser-based game has already generated more than 100,000 organic impressions without any advertising spend since its launch. Developer Tomiwa Amole said the game was heavily inspired by Opeyemi Adeniran's Lagos Run and Shalom Rayhamen's Lagos Life.

Lagos Tycoon, like many other Tycoon games, puts players in a virtual version of the city where they can start small, trade across Lagos and build their wealth through an economy involving other players.

A business inside the game

The game can be played directly through a web browser, with different areas of Lagos available to explore, including Oshodi.

Amole is now looking to build a business around Lagos Tycoon with the launch of Lagos Tycoon Ads. The service allows brands to place their businesses inside the virtual Lagos, with advertising starting at ₦500 per day.

The project also adds to a growing group of Nigerian developers building browser games around familiar parts of Lagos. With Lagos Run, Lagos Life, Surviving Nigeria and now Lagos Tycoon, developers are experimenting with different genres while using the city itself as the setting.
