A new browser game is bringing a GTA-style experience to Lagos, with Surviving Nigeria putting players into a multiplayer version of the city where they can drive, shoot, steal cars and compete to become the “Big Man”.

Developed by Nigerian creator Koha, the game is built around a simple objective called “Divide the National Cake”. Players collect seven Ghana Must Go bags to become the Big Man, after which other players can hunt them down and claim the bounty. The game also includes free roam and a protest mode.

The game uses AI to power its NPCs, with Koha saying the JEV AI Model from Typesafe AI acts as the “brain” behind NPC movements and interactions. The developer said the entire game was built in the browser using a single prompt.

Still evolving

Surviving Nigeria is currently being worked on based on player feedback. Recent updates have added more defensive tools, although Koha warns that using weapons can increase a player's wanted level and leave them vulnerable to other players.

The game joins a growing group of browser-based Nigerian games built around familiar local experiences, following projects such as Lagos Run and Lagos Life.

Its instant access also shows how developers can experiment with large multiplayer concepts without requiring players to download a traditional PC or console game. You can play the game here.
